Skills Articulation and Literacy Tool (SALT)
Skills articulation and skills literacy are the groundwork of social and emotional intelligence, and they contribute to increased levels of the foundational competencies needed to contribute to inclusive innovation and collaboration in professional and academic settings.
Foundational skills such as creativity, critical thinking, intercultural awareness and effective communication are “soft”, “human”, and “transferable”. They allow people to learn, adapt and thrive in all environments, including at work. They feed into the development of all other specialized, technical and domain-specific competencies and are crucial to design thinking and innovation.
- SALT is a self-paced, formative instrument designed to build competency and literacy through reflection.
- SALT focuses on the foundational skills that are essential in all contexts in which we work, learn and collaborate.
- The/La Collaborative provides support and offers workshops to help users make the most of what they learn in collaborative settings.
SALT’s evidence-based taxonomy captures the foundational skills perceived as crucial for success in a range of academic and professional contexts. Users are made to assess and reflect on the degree to which they successfully practice behaviors associated with specific skills. In the process, they increase their ability to articulate and communicate the skills they have and build their capacity to identify the skills they can develop further.
