Advanced Skills for Impact

Advanced Skills for Impact is a unique opportunity to join a pan-Canadian cohort of advanced students and emerging researchers in facilitated sessions to develop foundational skills literacy as well as core collaborative competencies: collaboration, communication in teams, strategic leadership, design and knowledge mobilization.

Thought reflection, participants learn how to transfer what they have learned to a range of academic and professional contexts: they cultivate skills for collaboration and partnerships through an equity, diversity, and inclusivity lens to foster team approaches that leverage cross-sectoral awareness and a commitment to inclusive spaces.

  • Participants hone strategic leadership skills when exploring the source an underlying factor of conflict and psychosocial factors that affect team dynamics
  • Advanced students and emerging researchers access applied and experiential learning through The/La Collaborative programs and networks.
  • The/La Collaborative works with institutional partners to develop versions of Advanced Skills for Impact that are adapted to specific organizational needs and priorities.

Testimonials

“This training helped me understand the foundational skills I already have as assets that can help in knowledge mobilization. What I found most valuable from the training is the development of core skills, articulating skills that need improving, and making tactile goals that can be worked on and improved over the seven-week training program.”

“This program gave me a chance to reflect on workplace communication, storytelling, and how to express my skills more clearly in professional settings. I especially appreciated the opportunity to think about cross-cultural differences in communication and professional norms. For me, the program was a useful space to connect reflection with practice.”

Participants will be guided by a facilitator through asynchronous and live synchronous sessions over the course of 7 weeks (2 hours/week). Be part of The/La Collaborative’s Advanced Skills for Impact network and access unique opportunities to work with partners and join innovative research projects.
