Innovation for Social Impact (ISI)
Innovation for Social Impact is an open access textbook and course-implementation toolkit designed to help helps universities and community organizations build the relationship and knowledge to work together to address social challenges through collaborative learning and innovation. It was funded through a grant from the Future Skills Centre’s pilot to develop a new approach to building capacity and skills to survive shock in the nonprofit sector.
While all learning materials are available online at no cost, The/La Collaborative and its network, provide instructors with the support to implement the toolkit, making optimal use of the open-access resources to create a learning space in their classroom that brings together students and community organization leaders and staff to work on real-world challenges while developing new knowledge and skills. Participants learn the foundations of best practices in social innovation and transformative thinking, engage in collaborative projects that strengthen their collective capacity for impact and benefit from fresh perspectives that place their priorities and needs at the centre of the learning.
Innovation for Social Impact enables students and community partners to:
- Understand the value of cross-sector collaboration in advancing social change.
- Apply systems perspectives to address complex social and environmental challenges.
- Explore practices, tools, and approaches for leading and supporting change.
- Work collaboratively on projects designed to increased to increase innovation capacity and to centre the needs of community partner.
